**SPOILER Review**
A Court of Silver Flames
By: Sarah J Maas
★★★★★
Nesta Archeron has always been prickly – proud, swift to anger and slow to forgive. And since the war – since being made High Fae against her will – she's struggled to forget the horrors she endured and find a place for herself within the strange and deadly Night Court.
The person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred, winged warrior who is there at Nesta's every turn. But her temper isn't the only thing Cassian ignites. And when they are forced to train in battle together, sparks become flame.
As the threat of war casts its shadow over them once again, Nesta and Cassian must fight monsters from within and without if they are to stand a chance of halting the enemies of their court. But the ultimate risk will be searching for acceptance – and healing – in each other's arms.
Oh my goddd this is such a bittersweet feeling!! For one, I'm so happy that I successfully binge-read a big series in a WEEK. 😍 But on the other hand, I'm sad that I don't get to see these amazing characters again until the next acotar book comes out who knows when.
A Court of Silver Flames follows Nesta after the war and she's basically in pieces. The book goes through her amazing mental health journey and how she heals as well as her spicy with romance with Cassian. 🔥For Feysand fans like me, there's a little surprise... Feyre is preggers 😍💖🤭
I'm going to start off by talking about what a skilled writer SJM is. Her writing is great obviously, but the way she can make me fall in love with a character and hate other characters is a talent for sure. I've always had mixed feelings about Nesta, our prickly heroine. But, reading this book has not only made me like Nesta, but she is literally my new favourite character. I LOVE HER SO MUCH.
Nesta Archeron is the embodiemnt of this 👑emoji. SHE IS A BOSS BITCH QUEEN AND I FRICKING LOVE HER. I thought I would love this book for the Nessian, and I do, but Nesta's character development and her strength and how she healed herself was just so inspiring that it totally topped the Nessian moments.
I can't even explain it in words how amazing Nesta is. She's literally an inspiration.
“So Nesta had become a wolf. Armed herself with invisible teeth and claws, and learned to strike faster, deeper, more lethally. Had relished it. But when the time came to put away the wolf, she'd found it had devoured her too.”
She went from being broken and depressed to a pillar of strength and power.
"I am the rock against which the surf crashes... Nothing can break me."
This line was so omg.
“Never again. Never again would she be weak. Never again would she be at someone’s mercy. Never again would she fail. Never again, never again, never again.”
When she had her meltown during the hike, I was in TEARS. It was kind of relatable in a way, because I think most of us have had thoughts like that at some point. And she used those Valkyrie #girlboss techniques and beat people up!!
This review is pretty much a roller coaster, but I forgot to mention that the book had a slow-ish start and I was not expecting much but I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN!!! The pace really picked up and Sarah DELIVERED.
Also, I love the author's note. SJM said that Nesta's journey resonated with her own and the "mind-stilling" techniques that Nesta practiced in ACOSF seems to be mediation. And then this line in her author's note 😍
“For every Nesta out there- climb the mountain.”
Now I'm going to talk about another aspect of the book that I loved. The female friendships. Gwyn, Emerie and Nesta are such a good trio! Their friendship is so wholesome I love it! The no-judgment, the unwavering love and respect for each other and of course, trading smutty book recs 😏 Gwyn and Emerie pulled Nesta out of such a dark place and they respect each other's trauma and don't pry. When they had that mini hunger games (aka blood rite) their friendship really stood through all the tests. I just love their trio, it's so perfect.
Now, I'm going to talk about the Nessian. I know I've been going on about the #girlpower in this book, but the Nessian was so perfect too.
“Nesta had loved Cassian since she'd first laid eyes on him. Had loved him even when she did not want to, even when she had been swallowed by despair and fear and hatred. Had loved him and destroyed herself because she didn't believe she deserved him, because he was all that was good, and brave, and kind, and she loved him, she loved him, she loved him”
Cassian never gave up on Nesta. He kept reaching out his hand and it was the sweetest thing.
“Cassian leaned to whisper in her ear, “The first time I saw that look on your face, you were still human. Still human, and I nearly went to my knees before you.”
SJM told her mum and grandma not to read ACOSF because it was too smutty for their eyes. And ohhh my god, this was very spicy indeed 😳🌶️That spice was just... wow. I liked it, but I liked the romantic parts more, like forehead kisses 😍😍😍Also that dancing scene. Omg. Nesta is such a queen, Eris literally proposed to her after 3 dances lol. And Cassian getting jealous and cutting in was everything 💖
Now I'm going to talk about things that I didn't like. Or more specifically WHO I don't like. I've always hated Elain. This book only strengthened my vendetta against her. I don't think even SJM can make me like Elain. She's just so ew. I actually felt for Nesta, she's always protected Elain and then poopy Elain goes Team Feyre. 😒 That's betrayal right there. And no one judges Elain for letting Feyre go out and hunt, but everyone judges Nesta! So unfair. And also her only personality traits are being sweet, pretty and good at gardening. Like shut tf up Elain. I hate you.
I have to say, two characters I love that were being annoying in this book are Rhys and Amren. They were both so harsh on Nesta for like no reason. I hated when Nesta apologised to Amren. Like girl you have nothing to apologise for. Rhys got better though. After he thanked Nesta for the Feyre thing and gave her the House of Wind.
I'm going to miss these characters so much. Welp, until the next book 👋❤️
