Booktok VS. Booktube

Booktube!

Booktube is very special because it's where I first discovered the book community and YA. Booktube pretty much reignited my love for reading, so I'll always be thankful for that. There are so many great booktubers on Youtube that put up videos about recommendations, wrapups, TBRs and more! It's a really great place to go when you want some reading inspiration or just for entertainment.

However, I have to admit that booktube videos are a bit long and can be rather slow and overexplained. This is probably because of my short attention span, but it takes effort to watch a whole video start to finish. I usually increase the playback speed and skip ahead quite a bit while watching.

Booktok!

Booktok is something I discovered a while after booktube and it just brought my obsession from 20% to 1000%. I absolutely adore booktok! I love the short videos and the minimal length of the videos with no lengthy explanations is just perfect for someone like me. I also enjoy the tiktok songs in the background. Also, I like the recommendations AND the humurous videos with relatable things about being a reader. Booktok is known for being very dramatic with titles like "Books that took my heart and shredded it into 100000 pieces". I can be a pretty dramatic person, and I find it enjoyable rather than misleading like some people. (How is it misleading? It's called an exaggeration!!)

Something I've seen abundantly on the internet is the false accusation that booktok only recommends the same 10 books over and over. I am quite familiar with booktok and I can clearly say this makes no sense. There are some books that are more popular than others, but what do you expect? That's normal. And anyways, I like knowing which books are popular so I can read them. (My blog IS called The Basic Bookworm!) But there are not books that are recommended endlessly over and over. I see so many books on booktok that I've never seen before! In fact, I would say that booktube is more repetitive than Booktok. I rest my case!

The only negative I have with booktok is that it's crazyyy addicting! I could spend hours there!! Something else I've noticed on booktok (not necessarily positive or negative) is the abundance of #smuttok!! 🤭

Conclusion

While I love both booktube and booktok as they both have their strengths, I can assuredly say that booktok is my favourite of the two, it just does everything right for me! Humour, relatability, video length, drama, variety of books, everything! I hope you enjoyed this post! Leave a comment down below if you have any requests. Happy reading!

I choose the booktok. Some videos from there I like so much that I use https://savetiktok.org/ to download what I am interested in. I especially like new authors who have become popular thanks to this platform. For example Jessica Yaros, her book series is amazing. Have you heard of her? I suggest you read it!

You made some great points about the differences between Booktok and Booktube! I agree, Booktok’s quick videos make it much easier to stay engaged. If you enjoy quick, efficient insights, you might want to check out website for NFL predictions. I’ve used it myself, and their detailed analysis and stats have helped me make smarter betting decisions. It's definitely worth exploring for anyone looking to up their game this season.
